Reader.. pause before you step into these pages. What you are about to read is not an imagined tale; it is a being that bleeds, a chest laid open so you may glimpse part of a spilled soul. Read us with your mind to see steadfastness, and with your heart to touch a loyalty that does not die. We do not seek tears; we seek a way out for a mind worn down by questions, and a glimpse of the divine wisdom that chose this fragrance to be poured into the soil of Gaza.
To the one who was the sun of our home and the homeland of my heart.. to my companion on the road and the lady of patience, Amani, who taught us that life is a stand, and that departing for the sake of truth is a pride that never breaks. To the birds of Paradise who rose in their mother’s arms — Reem, Hassan and Nour — to Gaza, which Amani loved, and to the soil that embraced her purity. To my living children, what remains of me in both worlds and the bearers of the trust after me.. so they may know what purity and what knowledge their mother carried.

Amani was born far from home on 19 November 1982 — the eldest daughter and long-awaited “wish” (the meaning of her name) of parents working in the emirate of Ajman. She grew up surrounded by hard work, drawing from the oases of Al Ain a deep, reflective calm and an early brilliance of mind.
In the book: Part One, p. 17A businessman who built himself honourably far from home. Quietly, he planted in her the meaning of struggle and how a future is built through effort and sweat, passing on to her a noble lineage and a deep sense of dignity.
A daughter of Beit Jirja and a teacher of Arabic, she was Amani’s first school of thought. From her, Amani drew eloquence and a love of language, and learned that teaching is a mission of creativity, not dry repetition — becoming a renewed version of her mother that blended the heritage of the past with the spirit of the present.
Despite a comfortable life in the UAE, Amani chose, out of a deep sense of belonging, to return to her roots in Gaza. She studied Educational Computing at the Islamic University, and her talent shone in a distinctive graduation project: “Computerising and programming physics labs”, which let students carry out experiments electronically — a pioneering vision of breaking the siege on laboratories through digital learning.
The story began in 2004 through a suggestion from her husband’s sister, Hala. In Deir al-Balah came the first meeting in which two souls recognised each other. On 7 July 2004 Amani was married and moved into her new home, building a kingdom on “the mother’s ten counsels” and the guidance of the Qur’an. She was a devoted daughter to her mother-in-law and a tender heart that embraced everyone.

Amani turned the terror of war into lessons in steadfastness. She met fear with a smile and displacement with a leader’s patience, raising her children to believe that “God is greater than every fear”. Reem, Hassan and Nour rose with their mother, leaving the narrowness of siege for the vastness of Paradise, and leaving behind Al-Fahd and Naeem to carry her pure legacy.

Amani was more than a teacher: she was the “chief of staff” behind the success of her husband and family. One of the finest examples is the “secret paper” she prepared with great precision, summarising the material for the 2023 school-principal competition — she engineered his success. She was named Model Teacher in 2018 and nominated for “Palestine’s Best Teacher” in 2023; her professional file remains a testament to an ambition that bombardment could not stop.
For her, teaching was never just a profession but a mission handed down through generations. Some of her students are now teachers themselves, following in Amani’s footsteps and carrying her way of giving generously and planting values before letters — so Amani lives on in every classroom where her story is told, and in every letter her students teach.
During a bitter forty-night siege, Amani’s brilliance showed in what the book calls “the engineering of survival”: she steered the family through displacement, ran the “household parliament” with steady wisdom, and faced hunger by managing “subsistence meals” with dignity.

The story of a “bag of olives” she managed wisely to feed those trapped under famine.
Amani’s integrity shone during the war when she wrote down, by hand, a precise record of every item of food borrowed from neighbours to share the little they had among those trapped. These were not mere notes, but a sincere pledge to return what was owed to its owners as soon as they came back.
In March 2024 the beginning met the end. Her pure body ascended, and a sweet fragrance rose from the martyr... the perfume of Gaza, spilled upon its land to bear glory and eternity. Her departure was not the end of the story but the rebirth of her message in the souls of her children and students — a living will, engraved in hearts before it was written in lines, a light on the path of steadfastness, and proof that even when bodies are gone, the fragrance of giving and faith never dies.
Amani’s will to Al-Fahd and Naeem, and to generations to come, is summed up in three words: “Remain true to the pledge.” Her will is knowledge that never fades, loyalty that never changes, and a soul raised to know that dignity is dearer than life. Amani left in body but remains as a trace, like spilled musk absorbed by the soil of Gaza, her fragrance lingering in every school and in the heart of everyone who knew this icon of patience.

Umm Al-Fahd combined boundless giving with skilled management. To her students she was a tender mother who cheered them and eased their fears, and to her husband a soulmate; together they set the finest example of loyalty and affection.
Amani lived a life of abundant giving — a messenger of peace who combined careful listening with deep wisdom and an endless passion for learning. She left tranquillity in people’s hearts and a lasting mark that time cannot erase.
